The Crab Syndrome

Many times while gazing into a bucket of crabs, I have noticed that if one tries to climb out, the others will grab it and pull it back down. This makes it unnecessary to put a lid on the bucket. I have also noticed this type of behavior in humans.
When we attempt to change our lifestyle for what we perceive as an improvement, even very loving and well-meaning people behave like crabs in a bucket. I believe that some of these people might feel fearful for us because our action goes against what they have been taught and what television leads them to believe, or they feel threatened in some way. The best advice that I can give on how to deal with these people is to give them more love and not try to jam information down their throats. The more you push, the more (most) people will resist. Let them see the positive changes in you without you pointing them out and only offer information if asked (and even keep that information short). This will keep peace and harmony in the community and make everyone feel good.
