Tips for Staying Active on Vacation

  • Start the day with a Sun Salutation. Nothing beats this exercise for total body awareness-a pleasure in your physical self that will make the rest of your day even more fun.
  • If you’re not doing any other physical activity, build in some brisk walks. Beaches, cities, even hotel casinos offer lots of opportunities for walking quickly and energetically, your arms and legs pumping, your lymph flowing. Just fifteen to twenty minutes can give you energy that will last the rest of your day and evening.
  • Take your essential oils and your dry brush. When better to soak in a tub than on vacation? And that dry-brush massage is a great pick-me-up for the transition time between afternoon and evening.
  • If you’re traveling with a companion, ask him or her to give you the Lymph-Pump massage. So it’s not the most romantic thing in the world to do—but it will keep you feeling energized, which can have other romantic benefits. And if you’re traveling with a friend, he or she will appreciate the chance to do something that’s so good for your health.

Happy Holidays and Victorious Visits

We all have trouble staying on track during the holidays. It’s not just a question of eating plans and fitness routines—the holidays seem to throw an emotional monkey wrench into everybody’s lives. Experts agree that holiday periods can be highly stressful, partly because we all have such intense
expectations about what these times are supposed to mean for us.

Likewise, no matter how much fun it may be hosting or being hosted, both being a guest and receiving guests can be stressful as well as pleasurable. The very things that lead us to welcome changes in our routine can also bring added pressure into our lives.

So once again our advice to you is double sided. On one hand, it’s fine if you give yourself a bit of a break during the holidays. You probably won’t stick to your eating and fitness plans as well as you might during the rest of the year—and why should you? Life would get pretty boring if you did the same exact thing 365 days a year. By the same token, there’s nothing wrong with modifying your diet and lifestyle while hosting guests or on a visit.

On the other hand, if you see healthy eating and regular exercise as part of how you take care of yourself, why should you give it up just because it’s a holiday, or because loved ones have come to see you? It may be challenging  to find new ways of handling visits, holidays, and other social occasions, but if the stakes are your sense of well-being and physical comfort, it’s worth
putting in the effort.
